Library Mission Statement

The mission of the Allan Shivers Library is to provide facilities, materials, and services which fulfill the diverse needs and requirements of our community, in a welcoming and business-like atmosphere.  The Allan Shivers Museum extends to the public the facility to observe a record of Allan Shivers' public and private life through conducted tours.  Access to Mr. Shiver’s private library is available researchers by appointment.

The Allan Shivers Library and Museum (ASLM) seeks a part-time Museum Manager to collaborate with ASLM leadership to oversee the Museum component.  View the job description on the ASLM website HERE.  To apply, submit a letter of interest and current resume’ to the attention of the Director either in person at the Library, via email to ashivers.library@yahoo.com, or mail to 302 N. Charlton, Woodville, TX, 75979.  The deadline to apply is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021.

Free GED Classes in Tyler County.

Enrollment for online GED test preparation classes is now open to 17-year-old and older adults who are interested in obtaining a High School Equivalency Certificate (GED).   Classes are offered via texting, phone, or email and as morning or evening instruction.  For more information, call (409) 283-8757.

Mon.--Fri.    9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. & 1:30 - 2:30 p.m.

Closed: 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Cost:   $5.00 per adult - $2.00  Senior Citizens - $2.00 per child (14 and under)

The Allan Shivers Museum has elegant gowns of Mrs. Shivers and their daughter, an authentic Victorian front parlor room with furnishings of the period, an African Safari room, and original political cartoons from Allan Shivers time in office.
