Gary Pinkerton - "Trammels Trace: The First Road to Texas from the North"

The Allan Shivers Library and Museum will be hosting an afternoon with Gary Pinkerton - author of the widely acclaimed novel “Trammels Trace: The First Road to Texas from the North.” Pioneers from the Appalachian regions traveled this route such as Tyler County’s Squire Cruse - one of the earliest settlers to the area.

His book tells the story of this early road to Texas. By the early 19th century, Trammel’s Trace was largely a smuggler’s trail that delivered horses and contraband into the region. It was a microcosm of the migration, lawlessness and conflict that defined East Texas (to include Tyler County) during this period.

“Making those journeys a little more real and present for readers today is one of the goals of my book,” states author Gary Pinkerton.

Pinkerton will provide his Trammel’s Trace presentation at the Gov Allan Shivers Library and Museum located in Woodville, TX on Saturday, 1 Dec at 1:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend and refreshments will be served.
