Use of Library Cards

A valid Allan Shivers Library Card must be presented in order to check out any library materials. A card that has been lost, stolen or destroyed can be replaced for a fee. Immediately report lost or stolen cards to the library, as you are responsible for all materials checked out on your card. Otherwise, staff will assume that anyone presenting your library card has been authorized to use it.

Allan Shivers Library Policy on Issuing Library Cards

  • Any sober, well-behaved person may use the library materials in the library even if he or she does not have a library card.
  • To secure a library card, the prospective patron's identification is established by use of his or her driver's license and by giving the librarian in charge information about place and address of employment, home address, telephone numbers, etc.
  • All public school students in Tyler County's five school districts are eligible for cards while in school provided a parent or adult with whom they are living accepts responsibility for lost and overdue books.
  • Teachers in the five Tyler County school districts may have regular cards while they hold a position here.
  • Replacements of lost cards must be paid for; fees are set by the administrative board. No fee is charged if the card is kept until the expiration date.

Do not attempt to repair any library materials!

BEFORE checking out any materials, please inspect the book for any visual damages and report it to the circulation desk.  If a book has loose pages, a video or audio does not work, or you have any other problems with library materials, please inform the librarian at the circulation desk.
